As every person is unique so are their conditions.  John's treatments are an ever evolving and growing combination of modalities that are effective and will help you heal and achieve a balanced state of health.

Our first session will start with a thorough intake and integrative evaluation that may include orthopedic testing, traditional chinese pulse taking & tongue analysis, abdominal and channel palpation.

We will discuss my findings and proceed for a treatment that may include any of the following modalities:
  • Acupuncture
  • Moxibustion
  • Therapeutic Massage
  • Muscle Energy Techniques and Stretching
  • Cupping and Guasha
  • Herbal Medicine
  • Energy Medicine
  • Caribbean Shamanism

  • Acupuncture - The insertion of very thin, single-use and sterile needles into the skin at different areas of your body.  The location and depth of the needling depends on the condition to be treated. The needles are retained for an average of 20 minutes. We can achieve different effects with this procedure, including increased blood circulation, pain relief, increased range of motion, deep relaxation, detoxification, boosted immunity, improved digestive, cardiovascular & emotional health.

  • Moxibustion - The burning of aged mugwort near or on certain acupuncture points to produce a warming effect into the channels.  It is considered to be a tonifying treatment that can be use in case of deficiencies, muscle fatigue and cold. Research associates moxibustion with an increase in white blood cell count.

  • Manual Therapy and Medical Massage - The application of pressure, using our hands, forearms and elbows to release muscular and fascial tension or pain in the body.  Even though relaxation is not the main objective of many of the massage modalities I practice, you will feel deeply relaxed after a massage session.  The main massage modalities I use are Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release, Orthopedic Bodywork, Medical Deep Tissue Massage, Shiatsu (Japanese Acupressure) and Tuina (twee-NAH), a form of Chinese physical therapy.

  • Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) & Stretching - MET is defined by Leon Chaitow as a form of soft-tissue treatment in which the patient’s muscles are actively used, on request, from a precisely controlled position, in a specific direction, and against a distinctly executed therapist-applied counterforce. The key defining element of MET is the use of an isometric contraction before subsequent stretching or movement of restricted tissues. Our preferred system is called Post Isometric Relaxation (PIR).

  • Cupping - The application of suction cups onto the skin. We create a vacuum effect using either fire or a manual pump and it lifts the skin and superficial fascia.  This allows for more blood flow into the area and it can have a detoxifying effect, used to break adhesions and release muscle & fascia tightness.

  • Guasha- Using a Guasha (scraping) instrument, we produce lubricated linear friction over specific areas of your body.  Traditionally used at the onset of a cold, it can also be used to promote lymphatic flow and release superficial adhesions.

  • Energy Medicine - Using light touch therapies, vibration and sound, we can promote a deep sense of relaxation and subtle awareness that can help your body/mind to heal.  John is a Reiki Master and practitioner of Caribbean Shamanic Healing.

Herbal Medicine -  Herbal Medicine is a powerful, effective and yet a safe way to treat a large amount of conditions naturally.  Herbs should be taken under supervision and you must make your practitioner aware of any supplements, other herbs or prescriptions that you are consuming as to avoid any kind of interaction and help you get the desired effects more efficiently.

John's knowledge extends beyond Chinese Herbalism, and he is committed to integrating local, sustainable herbs into his formulary.

Our herbal prescriptions come in the form of pills, teas, tinctures and ointments.  We prepare medicinal body oils, washes and liniments that are applied during our treatments or at the comfort of your own home.
